Clarinet Lessons
You can produce a wide variety of sounds with a clarinet. Soft whispers, loud shouts, or full singing tones. The sound can be subtle and intimate. You can create crackling and squeaking, rustling and fluttering. I love approaching the sound with curiosity, going beyond notions of right and wrong, beautiful and ugly.
In my experience, everyone develops the sound of their instrument in their own way—through repertoire, by listening to recordings of others, or by experimenting with materials like reeds and mouthpieces. I enjoy exploring your unique sound together. What draws you to the clarinet? Which sounds bring you joy? What fuels your passion and drives your playing?
Of course, we also look at any challenges and blocks, because they are simply part of the process. You will learn everything about tone, breathing technique, articulation, phrasing, finger technique, and embouchure. The context is always the joy of playing and the music itself.
Beginner or advanced?
Are you a young and enthusiastic beginner? Or an advanced young player looking to seriously improve your clarinet skills? Are you preparing for conservatory auditions and seeking support? Or perhaps you are an accomplished adult player? Then you are very welcome in my teaching practice! Lessons usually take place in Culemborg, but I also have a few spots available in Utrecht.
I work with all kinds of repertoire (early music, baroque, classical, romantic, contemporary, world music, etc.), and you’re welcome to bring your own compositions. I do not specialize in (jazz) improvisation.
You are warmly invited to a free trial lesson and introductory meeting.
